No Hot Water: What to Check
Start with the simple checks
- Confirm other fixtures also lack hot water (not just one faucet)
- Electric tank: check the breaker for the water heater
- Gas tank: confirm the control has power or a working ignition/pilot path and that the gas supply is on
- Look for water on the floor around the unit
Tank vs tankless symptoms
A conventional tank that is completely cold often points to power, gas, a failed element, or a thermostat. A tank that runs out quickly can be sediment or undersized recovery. Tankless units more often show error codes, lukewarm water, or ignition faults.
